Challenge

The client's desire was to replace individual small data rooms, scattered throughout four states, with one central, large facility, system-wide. This project needed to be robust and reliable, but financially feasible. Additional challenges included finding a suitable site for this building that would meet the data center requirements, including redundant power, fiber, water supply, highways and bridges. This data center needed to support the future of healthcare without knowing what that future would be.

Success

One major factor contributing to the success of this project was decision-making. This was initiated by a formal decision process with the many stakeholders on the project team. The future of data centers has an endless number of choices. Through a thorough analysis of each option regarding benefit and cost, Northstar's leadership enabled the Owner to make educated decisions on a timely basis. In addition, Northstar was able to negotiate several of the infrastructure utilities to maintain budget and redundancy.
