Challenge
As part of Mercy's strategic master plan, the City of Creve Coeur required improvements to the hospital main entrance from the Ballas Road Intersection. These improvements would address current and future traffic volumes as well as improve access to the hospital campus.
The project design solution was very challenging given the numerous authorities having jurisdiction. The intersection falls within two city limit boundaries as well as Missouri Department of Transportation. Numerous existing conditions posed challenges to the project team, including Interstate 64 interchange, a private medical office entry, and existing utilities. It was clear that there was not a design solution that would satisfy everyone.
Success
A key element to the Northstar apporach is to organize the team and define the project objectives. Through our leadership we were able to organize not only the Owner's design and construction team, but also representatives from the two city's planning departments, the private medical office Owner, local utility providers and MODOT. We were then able to work efficiently through multiple iterations of design solutions which resulted in a unanimously-approved best outcome.
